Club Tournaments

BRSC places a great deal of value on participating at tournaments. These events can be used as a measuring stick for progress made not only in team development, but also improvement in each individual player. BRSC attempts to place each team in the appropriate division in each tournament. Teams and players often learn more from a hard-fought loss than from an easy win. Team placement is done to encourage development and challenge our players. It is not done to guarantee a team comes home with a trophy.

BRSC will send its older teams (U14 and older) to the South Rush Cup. This is held each year in Pensacola, FL the first week of August. In addition to being a tremendous pre-season tune-up for our older teams, it is also an opportunity for our players to be identified as a Rush Select player. Rush Select presents opportunities for elite players to play at a regional, national and even international level.

Generally, BRSC strives to have our younger teams (11U-14U) attend 2-3 tournaments during each seasonal year and our high school aged teams (15U-19U) attend 1-2 tournaments during the fall. To foster a sense of Club pride and to prepare our teams for the fall season, BRSC aims to send all of our teams to the same tournament. The costs associated with registering the teams and the travel and accommodations of our coaching staff for this initial tournament are paid by BRSC.

Expenses associated with attending additional tournaments are paid in proportionate shares by the members of the team. Typically, these expanses include

• Team registration fee - often $650-$800.

• Travel and accommodations for Coach - estimated at $200 - $300

For example: If a tournament registration fee is $600, the coaches travel (calculated at $.55/mile) is $125 and the coach’s hotel costs are $175, the total expenses for the tournament are $900. On a team with a roster of 15 players, each family would contribute $60 toward the tournament expenses. In addition, each family would be responsible for their own travel, meals and lodging.

Scheduling tournaments in the middle of the seasonal year is a difficult task as league play is so demanding. Considerations in choosing a tournament are…

• Level of competition

• Playing new teams, not just teams we face in league play

• Cost

• Cost of travel and accommodations
